3 day non-residential prenatal & postnatal yoga training with Briony Goodsell, doula, pre & postnatal yoga teacher and mama of 3. Held at the beautiful Ray of Light Yoga rainforest studio in Bulli, Northern Illawarra.

Description

Immerse yourself in the study of yoga for pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Would you like to:

  • feel confident in teaching pregnant women and new mums in your classes
  • be able to safely amend your teaching to suit women at different stages of their pregnancy
  • understand common pregnancy-related conditions and know how to support your students
  • This training is for you if you:
  • are passionate about wanting to support women during pregnancy, birth and new motherhood
  • would like to make a positive change to the experiences of women in your community
  • understand the value of connection and creating ‘a village’

Our comprehensive training includes yoga practice, theory, class observation, practice teaching and independent study. We offer two training modules.

Pre-requisites: registered yoga teacher with a minimum 200 hrs training or midwife, doula or childbirth educator wanting to support pregnant women and mamas with yoga (non-registered yoga teachers also required to have had a regular yoga practice of 1-2 years). Pregnant women wanting to expand their understanding of yoga for pregnancy, birth and postpartum are also welcome to attend.

Training recognition available with Yoga Alliance for registered yoga teachers only.

2020 Dates

Module 1

30 hr prenatal yoga course dates: Friday 28th February – Saturday 1st March, non residential – plus additional home study.

Module 2

30 hr postnatal & active birth yoga course dates: Friday 27th – Sunday 29th March, non residential – plus additional home study.

Times

9:30am – 5:30pm. Nourishing ayurvedic food and herbal teas will be provided for the course duration.

Module 1

Prenatal

  • Attendance – 3 days
  • Observation (prenatal class and review)
  • Practical assessment (teaching and sequencing of prenatal class)
  • Written assessment (class plan, group assignment and case study)
  • Recommended reading/articles/videos
  • Learning outcomes:
  • Benefits of yoga in pregnancy
  • Safe prenatal yoga teaching – postures that are contraindicated
  • Yoga philosophy in relation to pregnancy
  • Uses of props and modifications for pregnancy
  • Understanding of the 3 trimesters of pregnancy
  • Prenatal yoga class planning
  • Anatomy and physiology of the female pelvis, lower back and uterus
  • Ayurvedic principles for pregnancy
  • Understanding common prenatal conditions and complications
  • Postures to aid common discomforts
  • Pranyama/breath work and chanting for pregnancy
  • Essential oils – safe usage and contraindications for pregnancy
  • Visualisation practices for mind and body

Module 2

Active birth & postnatal

  • Attendance – 3 days
  • Observation (postnatal class and review)
  • Practical assessment (teaching and sequencing of postnatal class)
  • Written assessment (class plan, group assignment and case study)
  • Recommended reading/articles/videos
  • Learning outcomes:
  • Yoga and active birth
  • Benefits of yoga in the postnatal period
  • Safe postnatal yoga teaching – postures that are contraindicated
  • Baby massage and yoga
  • Yoga philosophy in relation to new motherhood
  • Uses of props and modifications for the postnatal period
  • Understanding of the 4th trimester
  • Postnatal yoga class planning
  • Anatomy and physiology of the postnatal body
  • Ayurvedic principles for the postnatal period
  • Understanding common postnatal conditions and complications
  • Postures to aid common discomforts
  • Pranyama/breath work and chanting for new motherhood
  • Visualisation practices for mind and body

Location

 Our training is held at the stunning rainforest location Ray of Light – often referred to as Bali in Bulli. Owned and run by senior yoga teacher and yoga therapist Rachel Nokes, the beautiful studio and it’s tranquil surrounds are truly special. You can see the studio in the video below.

 

Module 2 training includes postnatal yoga teaching, active birth yoga, ayurvedic practices, business planning and marketing, women’s circles and more. Full details coming soon.
